On November 9, 1984 Actress Vanessa Redgrave wins a $100,000 lawsuit against the Boston Symphony Orchestra for canceling a scheduled performance of Oedipus Rex, which she was hired to narrate. Redgrave came from a prominent acting family-her father was well-known actor Sir Michael Redgrave, and her sister, Lynn Redgrave, also became a film actress. Vanessa Redgrave became an outspoken proponent of left-wing causes, demonstrating against the Vietnam War and championing the PLO. Redgrave's movies include Julia (1977), for which she won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar, Mission: Impossible (1996), and Smilla's Sense of Snow (1997).
